I am an architect. Even though I no longer work in the field, I am still an architect since I studied it and got my degree from a school of architecture. During about 15 years of practice as an architect, I dealt with many clients who insisted to involve whether in the designing process or in the execution of it. I despite that action and had to turn down many projects because of it. It's not like I didn't need the money...I did. But designing buildings means creating arts, and I need freedom to explore my ideas alone.
Now that I don't work as an architect anymore, some may consider me as an unsuccessful one. They can say whatever they want to say about me, but I'm happy that I didn't let clients make me do what they wanted me to do. That, to me, is what I consider an achievement.
And as I continue admiring designs created by great architects without involvement of their clients, I can always smile, looking at the products that may be the results of their designers' lack of commitment to art.
